School Lunches

Our school meals are provided by Totally Local Company (TLC) and are freshly made each day. Children are offered a choice of meals each morning and decide on their lunch for that day. For more information, visit their website: Education Catering – Totally Local Company

Cypad

We are pleased to tell you we now use Cypad, a more convenient way to book your child’s school meals using ParentPay. You will be able to easily choose, book and pay for meals online ensuring they receive the meal you have chosen for them each day. To find out more, read this guide: Guide to Cypad (PDF)

Pre-order meals online

Meals can be ordered in advance in your ParentPay account. To help you choose, you will be able to see pictures of the meals available, their nutritional content and any allergens in one place. This allows you to have more visibility over what your children are eating in school and ensures your child will receive the meal they selected from the kitchen – even if they are the last class to have their lunch.

In-classroom meal ordering

If meals are not pre-ordered online, this can be done in the morning in-class – usually through the interactive whiteboard or teacher’s desktop. This enables the children to engage in their nutrition and diet. Meals selected on the day can be paid for through credit in your ParentPay account in the same way you would pay for pre-ordered meals.

Allergies, religious requirements and special diets

You can update the system with any allergens and special dietary requirements to ensure your children are eating appropriate and safe meals. ParentPay will automatically block any meal choices that contain approved allergens for each child. The system can also manage religious and special dietary choices, enabling you to feel confident that special dietary requirements are observed.

A convenient and flexible system

Meal orders can be quickly amended or cancelled online, putting you in control and saving you time. You can view and make bookings on any handheld device or computer by logging into ParentPay at times that are convenient to you.

Free School Meals support

The meal selection system automatically supports Free School Meal and Universal Infant Free School Meal children, allowing you to choose meals safe in the knowledge no payment will be required.

Cashless payments

Meal bookings can be paid for online through ParentPay, removing the need for children to bring cash into school, making it a safer and more secure payment option.

Please be aware that due to some of our pupils having severe allergies we are a totally nut free school. Please remember we have children with other severe allergies too (milk/nuts/egg). Please consider this when sending children in with food and remind our children not to share snacks. Thank you for your understanding.

Food and Drinks in School

Healthy Eating

A gentle reminder regarding snacks and packed lunches in school plus some snacks sent for afterschool clubs: We must reiterate that we believe ourselves to be healthy school and although we try not to dictate what children eat during the school day, we would like our parents and carers to be mindful that in the majority, this should be healthy.

Morning break:

  • a piece of fruit, or veg (carrot sticks,) a healthy cereal bar (NO NUTS) oatcakes etc.
  • EYFS and KS1 receive Fruit and Vegetables that are provided by school as a Government funded incentive

Packed Lunches:

  • Please no family size/sharing bags of sweets or crisps.

Afterschool clubs:

  • If you choose to send a snack for your child to tide them over at afterschool club, this only needs to be something small as an quick energy boost! The time the children have to consume something is minimal.

Water Bottles

At Norris Bank Primary School, we follow the Local Authority and National guidelines which state that children should only have plain, still or sparking water in school to drink in the classroom. This should be brought into school in a clear container. Flavoured water is not recommended by the Local Authority and National guidelines for children to drink in school. All water from cold taps is of drinking standard in school.

We also recommend that children bring water in clearly labelled multi use containers, rather than single use bottles which are not good for the environment.

We are a nut free school

We have a number of children in school who suffer from SEVERE allergies including nuts. We cannot stress enough the severity of these allergies that could have very serious consequences should they even come into physical contact with nuts, let alone digest them.

We implore you to empathise and ensure that this must NEVER happen.

The following items SHOULD NOT be brought into school:

  • NO peanut butter sandwiches
  • NO packets of nuts (cashews, pistachios, etc.)
  • NO mixed nuts sachets/bags
  • NO Nutella or hazelnut spreads (chocolate spread sandwiches)
  • NO pesto on pasta/wraps (pesto is made with pine nuts)
  • NO fruit and cereal bars that contain nuts (e.g. tracker bars)
  • NO chocolate bars or sweets that contain nuts (Celebrations tins, i.e. Snickers)
  • NO sesame seed rolls or bagels (children allergic to nuts may also have a severe reaction to sesame)
  • NO cakes made with nuts

We have a policy not to use nuts in any of our food prepared on site at our school.

If there are any issues that you feel arise as a result of this, please do feel free to come to the Office to discuss them and if your child develops any allergies, please inform the school ASAP.

Help keep our children safe. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
