Year 5 pupils at Norris Bank Primary School were thrilled to receive a special reply from His Majesty The King after writing to him as part of their learning about rainforests and environmental issues.
During their studies, the children explored why rainforests are important and looked closely at environmental challenges facing the world today. This inspired thoughtful discussions about sustainability and what could be done to help protect the planet.
Motivated by their learning, the pupils decided to write to the King. They sent poems about rainforest conservation and asked for his advice on how our school could become more sustainable, knowing that caring for the environment is something he is deeply interested in.
To everyone’s delight, the school received an official response from Buckingham Palace. The Head of Royal Correspondence shared that the King was ‘immensely touched’ by the children’s enthusiasm and concern for the environment and sent his warmest good wishes to everyone at Norris Bank Primary School.
The children were over the moon to know that their work had been read and appreciated. The experience has encouraged them to continue thinking about how they can make positive, environmentally friendly choices both in school and beyond.
We are incredibly proud of Year 5 for showing curiosity, creativity and a strong sense of responsibility for the world around them.
